FULLY BOOKED - Roman Sunderland - free event - TICKETS MUST BE BOOKED

We have been overwhelmed by interest in the talk at the end of this month and to ensure all our visitors have the best possible experience we now ask that you book a free ticket to guarantee a space at the talk.

Gary Bankhead from the Department of Archaeology at Durham University is giving a free talk about our exciting archaeological discoveries in the River Wear in Sunderland.

He will be sharing some truly exciting news from the world of Sunderland archaeology. Recent discoveries on the river have revealed evidence that not only enriches our understanding of the city’s past, but actually challenges long‑held assumptions about Roman activity in the area. These finds open up a fresh chapter in Sunderland’s story — one that’s far more complex, surprising, and important than we ever imagined.
If you’re interested in archaeology, local history, or simply enjoy learning something new about the region, we would love you to come along to hear Gary's talk and to see our Roman stones we have on display!
