Transforming 14th century Hylton Castle to a living, working building that benefits the local community and visitors
Discover 600 years of history at Hylton Castle, and explore the beautiful open space and paths of Hylton Dene.
Our funders and partners are generously supporting all aspects of the project, and we welcome donations of money, resources, time, skills and ideas from all, however small or large.
Hylton Castle Trust is a registered charity (no. 1180548) caring for Hylton Castle. All donations are gratefully received and will be used to support the building and the work of the Trust.
The Hylton Castle Project will create a new and vibrant future for this iconic local landmark. Sunderland City Council and the Friends of Hylton Castle and Dene have joined forces to create a heritage–led community resource inside the remains of the medieval gatehouse.
The Hylton Castle Project will transform the magnificent gatehouse in to a community-based, heritage-led visitor attraction celebrating 600 years of history and sharing the stories of those who lived and worked at the castle from the 14th century until the present. With training for young people, volunteering opportunities, events, outreach, and education programmes, there is something for everyone to get involved in.
