Graham Bell is an old friend and supporter of Hylton Castle and the campaign for its restoration. Now, as Director of Cultura Trust, which works for public benefit regenerating places, sustaining livelihoods and handing on heritage through sensitive restoration and development, Hylton Castle and the insertion of a new modern building within the walls of a historic monument is a great example of conservation and sustainability.
In July 2022, Graham facilitated a visit to Hylton Castle by Cultura Trust’s Patron, HRH The Duke of Gloucester, accompanied by the Trust’s President, Lord Beith, and the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Ms Lucy Winskell. The dignitaries were welcomed by Cllr Denny Wilson, trustee and long time champion of Hylton Castle and introduced to many involved in bringing the Castle back to life including, trustees, volunteers, staff, architect and heritage stakeholders. The Duke also planted a tree as a foundation for our Children’s Orchard watched and cheered on by local schoolchildren.
