Could you help shape Hylton Castle for the future? Become a Trustee
Hylton Castle is perhaps the most iconic and best loved of Sunderland’s historic buildings. Castle in the Community, Sunderland City Council and local people have worked closely with English Heritage and Historic England to develop and deliver a stunning redevelopment of the building creating flexible modern spaces for people to enjoy as the next chapter of its 600 year history begins.
We are creating a self-sustaining project that will deliver training and work experience for local young people. Our community-led heritage centre will not only tell the story of the building and site and those who have owned and managed it but will also offer a wide range of volunteering and learning opportunities. Young and old alike will be able to gain valuable skills, meet new people and play a valued role in the life of the castle.
Hylton Castle Trust is a newly established charitable trust that will manage the project on the community’s behalf. We are now looking to recruit new trustees to help drive the project forward and ensure its long term sustainability. If you are over 16 and would like to be part of Hylton Castle and Hylton Dene’s future by serving as a trustee then we’d like to hear from you. All trustees will be invited to serve for a three year term. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have skills that they would like to share. Alongside managing and developing the project our trustees will also mentor the next generation and help ensure that our younger members gain the necessary skills to meet future challenges.
If you are interested in becoming a trustee of the Hylton Castle Trust [Castle in the Community] please submit a C.V. and covering letter explaining why you are interested and why you think you would be a valuable trustee. Please email your C.V and covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org. Our initial recruitment round closed at the end of November but if you're keen to get involved then we still want to hear from you.
Additionally, if you wish to discuss this opportunity in more detail you are welcome to contact the Hylton Castle department at Community Opportunities on 0191 5373231 or email: email@example.com. The trustee booklet offering more information can also be found at the bottom of this page.
Hylton Castle Trust is a Registered Charity, registered in England, no. 1180548.
