Join us for an hour long stroll around Hylton Dene, discover more about the history of Hylton Castle and its current transformation, take in St Catherine’s Chapel, and stroll through the parkland, woods and stream of Hylton Dene.
This gentle walk of around 1.5 miles takes in the exterior of the 14th century gatehouse and the site of the long lost castle buildings excavated by Time Team in the 1990s, before visiting St Catherine's Chapel and exploring paths through Hylton Dene, a local nature reserve at the heart of the community. This event is part of Local History Month celebrations across the city.
Meet at the Hylton Dene Play Area Car Park, Craigavon Road, Sunderland SR5 3PA. Please wear strong shoes and layered clothing. No need to book, all welcome including dogs on leads. This walk is suitable for children if accompanied by an adult.
