History is just a story, and everyone has a different tale to tell. Generally, the only stories that get remembered and passed on are the ones that have been written down and kept. However, our Ghosts of Hylton Castle oral history project aims to reveal our communities’ lesser known heritage stories. These stories are the ones you, your parents, grandparents, friends and foes have locked away in your memory banks of the Hylton Castle and Hylton Dene. Do you have memories of the Time Team visit? Did you hid in the castle when you should have been at school? If so we want to hear from you.
If not recorded, these stories are in real in danger of remaining hidden and eventually lost; and yet it is these important social histories that often shape us and the places we live. Over the coming weeks and months we aim be out and about collecting your stories to share we can share these with everyone. In addition and we will be developing a series of toolkits which will equip you with necessary skills you need to begin creating your own oral or video histories which we will be able to upload to our archive.
If you have a story to share, or would like to be trained to become one of our oral history journalists, or would like to know about this project then please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
