Hylton Castle Trust, supported by Sunderland City Council, National Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage, has created a new and vibrant future for this iconic local landmark. Inside the remains of the 14th century medieval gatehouse, Hylton Castle is now a bright, modern multi-use heritage-led venue which offers a unique meeting exhibition and celebration space with disabled access via a lift to three floors and a viewing gallery on the roof accessible only via a stone spiral staircase.
Hylton Castle's community-led Board of Trustees and the vast majority of its on-site staff are completely unpaid volunteers who are passionate and enthusiastic about the Castle's future.
Disabled access is via a lift to three floors and a viewing gallery on the roof accessible only via a stone spiral staircase. Offering training, volunteering opportunities, community events, and education programmes, there is something for everyone to get involved in.
